Comparison of Incisional Bursting Strength Between Two Suture Patterns in the Linea Alba of Horses
نویسندگان
چکیده
Because of its superior bursting strength, a continuous closure of the linea alba may offer greater wound security in horses undergoing abdominal surgery. Compared with the inverted cruciate pattern, this method of closure leaves less foreign material in the wound, potentially decreasing inflammation and lessening the potential for postoperative wound infection. Experimental study of the characteristics of a novel mesh suture
BACKGROUND The failure of sutures to maintain tissue in apposition is well characterized in hernia repairs. A mesh suture designed to facilitate tissue integration into and around the filaments may improve tissue hold and decrease suture pull-through. METHODS In vitro, the sutures were compared for resistance to pull-through in ballistics gel. In vivo, closure of midline laparotomy incisions ...

BACKGROUND Midline laparotomy closure carries a significant risk of incisional hernia. This study examines the behavior of two new suture materials, an elastic material, polyurethane (PUe), and a barbed polydioxanone (PDXb) suture thread in a rabbit model of midline incision closure. METHODS Three 2-cm midline incisions were made in 68 New Zealand White rabbits. The incisions were closed by r...

OBJECTIVE To compare biomechanical properties and mechanism of failure of 3 regions of ventral abdominal wall in cats by using 2 suture materials, 2 suture bite-to-stitch intervals (SBSI), and full-thickness versus fascia-only closure. STUDY DESIGN Randomized, cadaveric, ex vivo mechanical testing. SAMPLE POPULATION 16 adult cat cadavers, 3 samples per cat. METHODS Three regions of ventra...
متن کاملPrevention of Hernia in Long Midline Abdominal Incisions: An Opinion Paper
Background: Laboratory and clinical data have shown that small (0.5-1.0 cm) bites of a running suture closely spaced (0.5 cm) and only through midline fascia results in the lowest incidence of incisional hernia. Methods: Laboratory and clinical manuscripts were used to formulate a goal for optimal closure of a long midline abdominal incision. Using these conclusions as a starting point, surgica...
متن کاملContinuous Laparoscopic Closure of the Linea Alba with Barbed Sutures Combined with Laparoscopic Mesh Implantation (IPOM Plus Repair) As a New Technique for Treatment of Abdominal Hernias
Despite extensive experience and significant reduction of complications in recent years, laparoscopic treatment of complex abdominal hernias is a challenge even for the experienced endoscopic surgeon. Patients with severe incisional hernias or symptomatic rectus diastasis benefit from the closure of the linea alba as a morphological and physiological reconstruction of the abdominal wall followe...
